CLAUDY, Carl H., The Land of No Shadow
CLAUDY, Carl H.
The Land of No Shadow
New York, Grosset & Dunlap, 1933. Hardcover. Illustrations by A.C. Valentine. Small 8vo. Blue cloth with black lettering, pictorial dust jacket. vii, 214pp. Two-color frontispiece, two-color pictorial endpapers. Near fine/very good. Jacket mildly edgeworn, with spine faintly sunned. Superlative first edition -- tight, fresh -- of the third title in the 4-title "Adventures in the Unknown" boy's juvenile series (1933-34), described by one series bibliographer as "Almost adult-level science-fiction stories." Rear jacket panel and rear flap list first three titles only. Very, very scarce in this condition. Claudy (1879-1957) was an interesting figure who authored not only sci-fi but also works on aviation, freemasonry, photography (of which he was a noteworthy practitioner) and other topics. HUDSON 3. .

CLAUDY, Carl H.
Treasures of Darkness: A Mystery
Garden City, Doubleday, Doran & Company, 1933. Hardcover. Illustrations by F.T. Chapman. 8vo. Black cloth with orange lettering, pictorial dust jacket. 288pp. Color frontispiece, orange decorated endpapers. Near fine/very good. Mild jacket edgewear, with a few tiny corner chips. Exceptionally tight and lovely first edition of this volume in the publisher's "Junior Mystery Club," uncannily bright and sharp. The usually-absent jacket is not only present, but the circular cipher on the rear panel (which the text encourages you to "cut out.. Stick a pin through the center, and place on top of larger circle") has not been defaced. Quite scarce as such. .
